Two steps forward, one step back

Though both boys are growing up, Luke has reached the age where he learns something new just about everyday. This week he finally took a couple of "purposeful" steps and seems to enjoy practicing his new skill, though we haven't seen much progress. He's only gotten up to 3 steps in a row so far. We'll see how long it takes him to actually walk.
Still only one "sign" (that's he's known for about a month now) and that is the one for 'More' which he uses frequently since he seems to eat and eat and eat. I'm probably to blame for the lack of other signs since I don't use them with him consistently. With brother's help, he has also learned the motions to "If you're happy and you know it." He watches intently as we sing it waiting for the cues to clap, stomp, or raise his arms for 'hooray.'
Luke and his sleeping problems continue and unfortunately, I don't see an end to it anytime soon. He is just so darn stubborn. We were in a decent "groove" for a few weeks where he cried only briefly when being put down to sleep and overnight just woke around 4am to eat and went right back to sleep. Lately, he cries much longer and wakes more frequently. If only I appreciated the only getting up once a night time period...
Jacob has had a bit of a potty training relapse in the past few days, having accidents at the church and gym nurseries and wetting at night, none of which he's done before. It doesn't seem to bother him either, which is the scary part. Though I know it is not uncommon for kids to have a relapse in potty training at some point, I don't like it and hope it is short lived. I can only guess that it is the change in normal routine that has him off a bit???
Jacob hurt his leg on Sunday (not sure how) and has been limping ever since. Motrin seems to help the pain, but doesn't keep him from limping. Several people mentioned their children doing this basically to get attention. Though Jacob loves getting attention, I don't think this is one of his tactics. We'll keep an eye on it. Ahh, the joys of having a boy.
In good news, Jacob is doing great in learning the sounds the letters make. He has known his letters for over a year now, but we just started working on the sounds they make in the last 10 days or so and he's already learned about 12 of them. We'll have the whole alphabet in no time.
We kept busy our first full week of summer and look forward to many fun weeks to come.
Though we have gone swimming at the neighborhood pool many times, I can't seem to remember my camera when we go. Hopefully this week I'll remember.
Here are the rest of the week's pictures.

  1. Such cute boys!! I sure hope when Luke turns one, he starts sleeping all night for you. You need some sleep after a year of getting up!! Wow, he knows his ABC sounds? My son is soooooooo far from that. He can't even sing his ABCs for recognize a single letter. I need to really work with him this summer before preschool! Yikes! Julia was the same way as Jacob, very interested in letters. Maybe it's a first born trait :)
